Gregory’s Gallery: Floating Away

Posted by: Professor Gregory Allan Bass, DoGA, PhD (Hon)    in Gregory's Gallery

I’m quite happy with how this picture turned out, mostly because of the explanation I got when I presented it to the other Gentlemen. Someone mentioned matter-of-factly what was happening in the picture, at which point an entire discussion occured regarding what everyone else thought was going on. No two people had the same answer and that was exactly what I wanted out of this. So please, if you enjoy this piece, feel free to post your first thoughts on what you believe is happening in this picture.    Posted by: Professor Gregory Allan Bass, DoGA, PhD (Hon)    in Amazing Contraptions

I profiled this amazing little piece of Cold War history recently, as those who have already listened to our Guns & Ammo meeting know, but I wanted to go ahead and put up some pics of it as well. After the jump is the full text of that profile as well as some additional pictures of this bad idea just waiting to happen.

It also occurred to us after the podcast that this portable nuke launcher (which was quite capable of killing its own operators) was named after Davy Crockett. A man who died in a hopeless last stand at the Alamo… Whether this name was intended to draw parallels between that moment and the use of this weapon is unknown, but frightening nonetheless.

The Mathmatics of Slapdashery

Posted by: Professor Gregory Allan Bass, DoGA, PhD (Hon)    in Adventurology, Gregory's Gallery

As promised on our Slapdashery podcast, Jesse and I have come up with a graph for the possible outcomes of slapdashing. We hope you find it helpful in deciding what in your day to day life could use less planning.

Eh... this'll be okay...
